Sven was educated at the universities of Amsterdam and San Diego and started practicing in intellectual property litigation in 1989. Sven is widely regarded as a highly accomplished and tenacious litigator and was described by Chambers Guide to the World’s Leading Lawyers as "creative" and "erudite and linguistically accomplished" and as a litigator who is "not just technically good" but one who "really fights for his clients". 

Sven was educated at the universities of Amsterdam and San Diego and started practicing in intellectual property litigation in 1989. He became partner in the IP department of the firm Nauta Dutilh in 1996, was a partner in Allen & Overy and went on to co-found Klos Morel Vos & Schaap in 2002.

His practice extends over a broad range of IP matters. Sven's extensive trademark litigation practice before national courts as well as OHIM and the European Court of Justice sees him representing a number of major names in the food, fashion and entertainment industries. Sven is renowned for his particular experience and expertise in the area of non traditional marks such as colour marks and 3D shape marks. He has successfully litigated a significant number of patent infringement and know-how cases regarding mechanical devices, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and chemical process technology. Throughout his career a focal point of his practice has been litigation in design protection matters based on copyright, 3D trademarks, design registrations and unfair competition. In this arena Sven represents a great number of clients ranging from blue chip fashion companies and toy manufacturers through to manufacturers of industrial products. A special niche in which Sven has been a prioneer sees Sven representing a great number of Sports organisations such as soccer clubs, soccer leagues and national as well as international sports regulatory bodies in the area of broadcasting rights and merchandising.

Sven has published and lectured on a wide variety of topics, such as protection of product design, sports marketing, damages proceedings in intellectual property matters, the Database Directive, cross border injunctions in trademark infringement cases, non-traditional trademarks, licensing contracts, character merchandising and the interface between competition law and intellectual property law. Sven is active as a guest lecturer at the university of Nijmegen, teaches at the professional training courses for patent attorneys and trademark agents, has been a member of various ALAI study groups and has served on a number of INTA Subcommittees.
